Trump Takes Aim At Tax Reform
In 1986, then president Ronald Reagan set out to "simplify the tax code" via a taxation overhaul, known as the "Tax Reform Act". Due in part to political polarization, and the resulting lack of bipartisan support, the tax code has not been fundamentally altered since, in over 30 years. Now, the most divisive candidate since wishes to take on this complex matter, directly following the defeat of the "AHCA", and failed attempts to "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act. The fact that a complete restructuring of the existing tax code would not be possible without repealing the ACA, it is questionable why Trump wishes to take this issue on now, after his recent attempts to do just that floundered "bigly". Then again, perhaps there is a reasonable explanation.
Explosion Or SabotageOn MSNBC a few nights ago, Sen. Bernie Sanders made a guest appearance during which he commented in passing, and on the issue of Trump and 'Obamacare' stated "I hope he doesn't sabotage it". I paused in thought for a moment while I pondered the implications of it, and quickly moved on. It is worth considering this possibility in light of the fact that Trump continuously pushes the narrative that "Obamacare is exploding". (see video to your right)

With Donald Trump peddling the idea of an 'exploding' ACA (the story began as an 'implosion', but hey, it's Trump) one can only wonder what the Donald is thinking. Or, at least until I happened upon this New York Times article this morning stating some of the implications of attempting to restructure the tax code without altering the ACA. While the article brings that to light, I have yet to see (and trust, I looked) an article suggesting that Trump's "tax reform" may be the very sabotage that Sen. Sanders warned was possible. This issue is a 'tremendous' one, and I recommend following this topic closely going into the future!
