Former Progressive Primary Challenger Sema Hernandez Endorses DNC Nominee Beto O'Rourke For TX Senate
Sema Hernandez, the former progressive challenger to 'Beto' O'Rourke in the Democratic primary election to unseat incumbent Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has endorsed her former opponent to represent TX on the Senate floor...
Sema Hernandez, who a month ago referred to O'Rourke as "a corporate [Democrat]", has now endorsed him on social media, and with a typed statement touting a mutual platform (just as Sanders did in 2016, mind you). While Sema Hernandez's "...first mission is to help Beto unseat Cruz this November", she claims she is willing to offer resistance. In a Twitter chat group shared among various progressive writers and activists, Hernandez said "I will not cover for him if he lies", in response to one question about her future willingness to challenge O'Rourke.

While in the Democratic Primary for US Senate in TX, Hernandez often compared O'Rourke to Cruz, and presented herself as the alternative to what she referred to as a choice between Republican and Republican-lite, so I reached out for comment with regard to her confidence that O'Rourke would be a progressive voice in the Senate; Her response was that "[O'Rourke] is a centrist, but at least he's not a right-winger". Even following the endorsement, Hernandez acknowledges that "It seems like he wants to make amends, but his voting record doesn't reflect that".
