Socialist Announces Bid To Challenge America's Most Popular Politician
Reid Kane is a member of the Socialist Party in Vermont, and the most recent candidate to enter the race for Sen. Bernie Sanders' Senate seat there. Kane, beginning with zero name recognition 2 months before the Nov. 6th general election, announced his bid to challenge America's most popular politician on social media on August 27th.

The tweet/announcement states that the endeavor is the joint undertaking of the SPUSA in VT and the "Liberty Union Party of Vermont", with Kane as the joint nominee of both.

The Reid Kane campaign website states that Bernie Sanders is "unwavering in his attachment to the Democratic Party", and that "his socialism is only a plan to preserve the power of the Democratic Party". Bernie Sanders is the longest serving Independent Senator in U.S. history who's electoral path to victory habitually includes snubbing the DNC's nomination after receiving it, and proceeding to run as an Independent. Kane, who defined socialism as "taking responsibility for society... and [employing] themselves" is not under any delusions of a possible November victory, but states that "[This campaign] is not a campaign to win this particular Senate race, but to organize the masses into a Socialist Party capable of taking political power into their own hands, in order to realize the promises of democracy and liberty."
