It's 'Crunch-Time' For The Tim Canova Campaign
This Campaign Should Matter To The Progressive Movement; Here's Why...
At the national level, the progressive movement has been a curious one, with candidates in some primaries doing very well, and others doing very poorly. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seemed to shake the earth with her stunning victory over Joe Crowley in New York's Wall St. District, while, just as relevant by implication, Steven Jaffe was unable to rouse the movement from the couches of CA's 12th CD to unseat incumbent corporate stooge Nancy Pelosi. The movement, amidst its electoral twists and turns, faces a moment of great political magnitude in the November general elections, and FL's 23rd Congressional District is a race to watch closely.
First and foremost, the incumbent is the iconically corrupt Debbie Wassermann-Schultz, who played a central role in fixing the 2016 'Democratic' presidential election against Sanders. She subsequently resigned her position as DNC Chair, while essentially admitting no fault in the matter. The DNC's new chair, Tom Perez, is another corporate mouthpiece, and DWS was somehow allowed to continue serving as the Representative for FL's 23rd CD. The status quo has brutalized progressive causes for the last century (see "The Age Of Acquiescence", by Steve Fraser) and DWS is appropriately one of the national symbols of that in the 21st century.
Furthermore, the earth, her population, her seas, and her air, can wait no longer for sane political leadership, and Canova's election on November 6th would send a strong environmental message at a political moment it is needed most.
Finally, Tim Canova is a registered Independent, and with regard to sending messages, this one would be loud and clear to the DNC; cease the corrupt cycle of buffoonery that relentlessly ousts progressive voices from electoral politics and stand for something, or get out of the way while the leaders lead. That, IMO, is a message worth sending. Tim Canova represents the type of strong progressive leadership we need. Let's elect him on Nov. 6th to represent Florida's 23rd....
