Tim Canova "DemExits", Announces Run As Independent
"I will be changing my party affiliation to non-party affiliation. I intend to run against Debbie Wasserman Schultz as an independent. I will be on the ballot in November against Wasserman-Schultz..."
A passionate Tim Canova spoke to supporters on Monday, April 2nd, railing against the establishment, it's politicians, their corrupt practices, and one of their icons, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who infamously cheated Sanders and helped rig the primary election in 2016. Wasserman-Schultz subsequently resigned in disgrace from her position as DNC chair, but thought it fitting that, not only should she continue to represent Florida's 23rd congressional district, but run for re-election. Inevitably therefore, the race between her, and her challenger, Tim Canova, is being seen as a fight between the same corporate neoliberalism embodied by the incumbent, and the rising populist left demanding a systemic and radical shift from the status quo.

"We will not be constrained by the narrow range of acceptable opinion and the establishment wing of the Democratic Party", he continues, "when we see bullshit, we will call it out". Canova pulled no punches in his 39 minute speech, stating unequivocally that "It is not progress if it isn't progress for all, and that is what Debbie Wasserman Schultz has forgotten".

"As an independent, I now reaffirm why I am running against Debbie Wasserman Schultz", he stated, sounding bolder. "First, she has failed to represent the people of her district; She has followed the corporate agenda of her donors". Canova listed several powerful industries and lobbying firms responsible for the corruption in Florida's government. Then, he had a confession to make. His voice tempered down as he admitted "I voted for Barack Obama twice. I was in love with him once." Canova lamented the fact that Obama then surrounded himself with Wall St. Economists, and seemed to turn his back on the people, and then immediately laid out a very progressive agenda reminiscent of the Sanders campaign, which he labeled as a "New Deal Economics" justifying his exit from the Democratic Party.

Likely one of the most relevant statements of his announcement speech was "I have not left the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party has left us". While Canova made it clear that he would continue to endorse "Democrats and democratic candidates across the country", he says he feels his independence from the party was "necessary", as a cacophony of support flooded in from Facebook's live chat, and his speech drew to a close.
